The Widow Harun
Unther was until recently a powerful ancient empire, one of the the theocracies that made up The Eastern Realms, and traditional rival to Mulhorand. The land once called Unther faces Mulhorand across The Sea of Fallen Stars to the east, and borders free Chessenta to the west. The coming of the Tuigan changed Unther forever. Today, the empire is no more, its cities razed to the ground, its people fled, massacred or enslaved, its gods extinct and its once-green fields now fallen back to dry prairie where ordus of the Tuigan graze their livestock.
Unther had already fallen on hard times prior to The Demonwar, when weakened by the death of her gods, the nation was invaded and largely occupied by Mulhorandi armies. As part of the events that followed, Unther fell under the sway of demon followers who raised fresh armies and pushed back the frontier into Mulhorand. Jebe Khan and his companions became influential and wealthy mercenaries in the service of the hard-pressed Mulhorandi, and the land grant which would become The Tuigan March was awarded to them to be a buffer state against further Untheric risings. Later the Tuigan would assail Unther again, sweeping over the land from The Green Lands as far as Threskel. The riders dealt severely with the conquered cities of the ancient realm, pulling them down and massacring the people, except those with special skills who were retained as servants and packed off into the hinterland. Famine destroyed the settlements that persisted after the conquest, since Jebe Khan ordered The Green Lands burned repeatedly.
Modern Unther is an empty land where only the nomads and their friends are to be found, as well as the occasional hermit who may have wild stories to tell of dead gods and burning cities.
